One way that we create stress in our lives and within ourselves is by living a
constant “go and get stuff done” lifestyle. When we are not moving physically our
minds take over the moving and we think about all the things we haven’t done and
all the things that we need to do. In order to find that peace and calmness, we need
to guide not only the body, but also the mind to stillness.
Finding stillness is like finding the eye of the hurricane. If you can choose stillness
regardless of what you’re experiencing in your physical body, regardless of what
emotions are arising, regardless of where your thoughts want to draw you, then you
can find mindfulness; mindfulness is home to peace and calmness.
Some surprisingly beneficial results occur when we practice mindfulness:
- better sleep
- weight management
- improved attention
- reduced anxiety
- depression prevention
- managed pain
